International conference on Phosphor Thermometry

26-27 July Glasgow (Scotland)

SCS’ technical team has pioneered thermographic phosphors for almost two decades. SCS is very pleased to participate with three members at the first ever conference on phosphor thermometry at Strathclyde University, Glasgow, this week. Dr Chris Pilgrim, technical director, will give a presentation on the temperature memory phosphors and their application on a 3D printed turbo charger to understand the heat transfer of internal cooling channels. Daniel Castillo, PhD student at Imperial College and full-time employee at SCS, will give a poster presentation on the development of high temperature binders for phosphor materials.

The conference will be from Thursday 26th July to Friday 27th July and will comprise 29 papers and posters from academic groups around the world. Dr Feist, Managing Director commented: “I am looking forward to participate with my colleagues from SCS at this unique conference. But I am also excited to catch up with some friends from around the world and discuss the latest trends and projects.”

ASME Turbo Expo 2018

11-15 June Oslo (Norway)

In June 2018 the ASME Turbo Expo took place in Oslo, Norway.  With three thousand visitors this is a  must-attend event for all turbomachinery professionals.

Sensor Coating Systems, for the first time ever, attended the show as an exhibitor. Engineers visiting the booth were enthusiastic about participating in live demonstrations of SCS’s Thermal History Technology. The demonstrations showcased SCS’ measurement equipment on both embodiments: thermal history paints and thermal history coatings. Among all the engineers visiting SCS’s booth one hundred registered with SCS for receiving more information and to discuss potential applications in their subject areas.

Conference: EC Future Dialogue

21-22 November 2017; Berlin, Germany

Sensor Coating Systems presented a paper providing a high level overview about different aspects of the technology and will show some application scenarios of engine components. It will then finish with an outlook into further developments and other potential application areas other than temperature detection. Presentation: Some (engineers) like it hot – Advanced Thermal Mapping using novel Temperature Memory Paints and Coatings.

April 2017

Conference: 12th European Conference on Turbomachinery Fluid dynamics & Thermodynamics

April 3-7, 2017; Stockholm, Sweden

Robert Krewinkel of MAN Diesel & Turbo presented paper titled ‘Surface temperature measurements in an industrial gas turbine using Thermal History Paints’, which was co-written with SCS. The paper describes the successful implementation of Thermal History Paint in a non-dedicated engine test.

Conference: 1st Global Power and Propulsion Forum in Zurich, Switzerland

SCS attended the conference and presented a paper in collaboration with VZLU – Aerospace Research and Test Establishment in Czech Republic. The benefits of Thermal History Paints were demonstrated through measurements on nozzle guide vanes, with the view to compare and validate them against thermocouple measurements. The results show that the THP extends the limited information from thermocouples to provide a more complete view of the thermal processes on the component. ASME Turbomachinery Technical Conference & Exposition

SCS attended the five day conference in Seoul, South Korea and presented a paper outlining a test in which Thermal History Paint was applied to a front panel from a combustor of an industrial gas turbine. Results was published in collaboration with MAN Diesel & Turbo. The test provided useful and accurate results and showed good agreement with other traditional temperature measurement techniques.
